Adsense Alternatives

in Adsense

Well after the last post I was a little tuckered out and have taken a couple of days to regroup and do some paperwork for my offline job. That has to be done. Today, though, my post is about adsense alternatives. One adsense alternative that I wanted to talk about specifically though is clickbank. I’ve noticed in looking at my clickbank sale that I had the other day, that when you look at the earnings per click, you could almost compare it to adsense. You can also set up a block of clickbank product links to look almost like adsense does. I’ve been experimenting with this on one of my blogs using a skyscraper on the side and I have been getting clicks, more than adsense.

What will work on your site can only be found out by testing. Griz for example has removed the adsense from his site. His google adsense alternative is affiliate programs of a different sort. You’ll see him testing how much he can make and compare it. This is what you have to do too. Speaking of Griz, he posted to his site again yesterday and the post with a link to my site and now it’s moved it back off the front page. Now, the avalanche of traffic which was about 2500 page views over those several days is gone. I’m left with those who have stuck around to see what happens with my project which I have made an adjustment to.

My home site niche has been changed to another travel site. I’ve had this site for about 4 years and it’s got a page rank of 3. I decided to add it to the mix because of it’s age and page rank. Shortly, I’ll be changing the sidebar to reflect this change. My adsense earnings was over $6.00 yesterday and I’m on pace to break $40 this month but we’ll see how it goes.

There are other alternatives to adsense but I’ve decided to start with one alternative and that are these clickbank products. I’ve also spent some time and found 38 different ones that I want to promote. I’ve started promoting five of them at this point. One suggestion that I would make is that you post them in your sidebar with text descriptions that you write. I can’t say for sure that this will matter alot, but it will make the link look more natural.

While there are other google adsense alternatives out there, I’m going to start my focus with clickbank products.

One thing I can never be accused of is fallowing good advice very often. An online friend who has a number of blogs that are decent AdSense performers told me he tripled .. yes that is multiplied by three .. his AdSense performance by alternating AdSense and two other ad service using the “Who Sees Ads” plug-in. It isn’t so much that the other ad services add that much to his bottom line, it seems more that seeing AdSesne less often makes the click opportunities more tempting? Strange, isn’t it? Eeven more strange that I haven’t tried it out for myself.

Regarding your ClickBank ads mentioned above, are you building the ad blocks by hand or are you using a publicly available tool to format and keep track of the CB links?

I thought it would be easier to show you by putting part of my strategy to get offers out there in the sidebar. I’ve thought about reducing my ad spots with adsense. I know that my sidebars get clicked less than anything. I have been surprised by the effectiveness of ad link units as far as payment goes. I think if you used the who sees ads plug in and removed ads from the homepage your clickthough would go up. If you could also exclude yourself that would help alot but you can’t do that.

Hey Road Warrior,

Big fan of your blog – I’ve been following it for the past couple weeks (long-term loyalty) to stay motivated – I’m currently working on a not as attractive, less successful journal-style MMO blog myself.

Like your posts, part of my progress tracking bit has been posting my weekly Adsense revenue. My question for you is, have you seen anything in the Google Adsense TOS prohibiting publishing your Adsense results? I’ve heard Google frowns on it, but I’ve yet to find any evidence…I’d hate for Google to pull the plug on my steady $.10/day revenue stream. Just curious to see if you know anything on the subject.

Anyway, again, great blog, and I look forward to reading more!

Hey thanks for sticking around. As far as disclosing adsense stuff, posting earnings is OK. Funny comment about the pulling the plug on the earnings. I wouldn’t really go any farther than that…I checked out the blog….are you branching out into any other niches…?

Thanks for the quick feedback! That’s good news. To answer your question, I’m actually currently working on writing content/building a new site for a niche interest. I’m building the site using Wordpress, and I plan on trying my hand at some affiliate action, which is totally new to me. I don’t plan on going live until I have a substantial amount of content for the initial release…my MMO blog posting may be a little less frequent over the next couple months, but I’ll be punchin’ the clock behind the scenes.

Thanks again for all the info and inspiration, man. Look forward to seeing your continuing progress!

It’s great that I have a made a couple of friends already on the site. Good luck on the new one. I’ll send you a link here soon. Also, I’m looking forward to my next experiment. So stay tuned!
