Adsense Keywords

in Adsense

I think most of us who have studied a little bit about how to make money online are familiar with adsense keywords, or the idea behind it. What you want to do is try and find out what types of words people are searching for, that have good advertiser support through Google adwords, and then mesh that with good content on your site. Ultimately if it were that easy, we’d all be rich. While choosing the right adsense keyword is very important to any post your write, getting backlinks to your site is as important as well.

Doing the work involved in getting backlinks is a full-time job itself. Writing articles with the anchor text your need, going to another site and doing the same seems like a lot of effort. You could really spend all day working on that alone. So, I am trying a couple of experiments here. Let’s recap my plan and then I’ll go over the experiment, I’ve got planned.

If you remember, my goal in two years is to have seven sites targeted to certain niches. While the niches I’ve targeted aren’t necessarily top paying adsense keywords, they’re strong enough, at least a buck or two or more. Here’s how I’m going to go about adding content to those sites.

Sites one through seven are sights in the following niches.:

  • Finance
  • Travel
  • Sleep
  • Law
  • Insurance
  • Home
  • Work

I’m going to focus on site number one until I get 100 posts by writing a post a day and getting four back links to it. I’m also going to do the best I can to get back links to search terms that people find me with. Once I get to one hundred posts, I am then going to put that site into what I call maintenance mode and post on it once a week.

At first, with the other sites, I was going to wait to post on them until I got to them, but instead I’ve decided to go ahead and put them in maintenance mode right away to help the sites age a little better. This means that I am going to post on them once a week, but I am not going to bother with back links. I figure with a little content, when I get ready to really bump up the articles, I will probably see a lot better results.

I’ve tried to pick a wide range of keywords to be able to target lots and lots of them over time. I’ve also tried to pick some niches that might be a little harder to crack, like law and insurance. As far as insurance goes, I’ve been working in the field for about 20 years and have a domain name that’s been registered for quite some time. You’ll probably notice that this domain name you are reading is my work “niche” and will see that as a keyword in my url. So, you’ll get to see one in action, so to speak.

For the sites that I haven’t got in standby, I’m not going to do extensive keyword research on. I’m going to use the adsense keyword tool to pick an overall keyword, write a post about it. Pick the next related keyword down (or it’s cousin) and write about it. You’ll notice that I’ve done that already with my posts on this site so far.

The posts in order were:

I’m doing this so that I start to build up trust with google adsense keywords related to the url, I’ve chosen. Once I have developed the word by going through all of the cousins, I will branch out into other related keywords once I get to the 100 posts segment for that site and do my keyword research then.

You’ll notice too that this site doesn’t have adsense in the site url and that is because it’s a trademarked word and I didn’t want to build a domain name up and later be told I can’t use it. Therefore, you are also going to see me start to use the phrase work in some of my post titles and they won’t be targeted to the Adsense Startup project.

Now, I don’t expect to rank for any of these keywords, I’m just going to look at it like site prep. The experiment is how good can a blog do with no back link work since it’s going to be a year or so out before I get to the 100 posts for that site. Anyway that’s an update for today. I did make some money yesterday in adsense so it was good to see.

Even if your not focusing on backlinks for the “sites to be” you might want to think about picking up an easy 1 or 2 a month then you could cut back on your 4 per month.

I don’t know if you have heard of shetoldme.com but it’s really easy and fast to link to, just write a 200 char. description, its kind of a digg type site but you don’t really have to do much just grab the link and ignore it.

One of the google dudes said that older links carry more weight, dunno how much more but it’s something to think about.

Good luck, great site btw.

I will be sending some anchored links to you using these keywords. Unfortunately, I can only do these with my generic blogs as I don’t have a money making one.

How to make money with adsense is a tough one as you are competing with Griz on this money : )

My biggest problem now is with backlinks. I am not sure which system is the best. I have tried a couple of approaches including article marketing, commenting, profile pages but there is no one winning approach.

You mentioned about building 4 backlinks per day. Can you share a bit of which approach are you taking and why? Thanks!

Btw, I like your theme. Is it your own creation?

Thanks for sending links my way….funny thing is that I’m going to really going to target a different set of keywords over here so I don’t expect to rank for them….I am building one ezine article with three links from the 40 or 50 keyword academy blogs. With a membership it gives you access to them. Yesterday, to my financial site, I guest authored a post to get a back link from another financial site since I stumbled across it. I’ve also been getting some blog roll link exchanges from people as I run across them. I think the number one thing you can do is get 100-200 articles out there on your own blog. I am making what I am making so far based on sites with no backlinks and only blog roll exchanges. I am just tyring to ramp it up a bit. I am using thesis theme which I modified. What niches are you working??

Thanks for the tip Fay and I think based on what you told me, I should do my 4 links to my once a week posts on the blogs I am going to target later to get some aging…thanks for mentioning that.

Are you also keeping track of your time spent so you will know what that is in the end?

I can try and incorporate that. My original plan was to allow an hour a day but I think it’s going to be more than that. Let me see what I can do there.
