So, it’s official. I’m over $70 in one month for the first time. I think that makes me qualified to make a mini adsense tutorial. Well, not really but that’s the keyword I want to write about today. Just because I’ve learned a little doesn’t make me an expert. But, it does make me qualified enough to say that if you work at it, you can make money with adsense. I remember when I first slapped adsense on one of my sites we created for a local magazine and seeing the results. I wrote off the program thinking that it only pays you pennies. It does however pay you more if you work it right. All that’s required is that you give google what it wants and they reward you. Without further adieu, here’s my google adsense tutorial.
Here are the steps:
- Pick a keyword
- Analyze it in the google adwords tool to verify it has traffic and a decent cpc plus a bunch of keywords
- Set up a site around that set of keywords
- Target your posts to those keywords
- Get anchored backlinks to those posts
If you do that enough, you’ll eventually start getting traffic and when it comes from search engines, they are more likely to click on adsense ads. A lot of us are already set up with a site and we’ve started some content. I know that when I sat down and looked I had 25 sites set up for various projects. Some were targeted and some were not.
I made a decision to research as much as I could the many google adsense tutorials out there. Once I felt like I had learned everything I could, I then started writing content. I didn’t get many backlinks at the time. One, because I wasn’t really sure what to do and two, I wasn’t sure where to get them from. I’d also write for a few days and then not for awhile. Spend more time researching. You probably know the drill.
The important lesson that I learned from it was that you have to keep moving forward, even if all you do is write content for your site. Do something each day to make your site better. Take this site for example, I don’t really expect to make very much money from it since it’s such a saturated niche. But, I am still trying to improve it. I expect that the sites I make money on are my other sites and that’s proving to be true.
And whatever you do, write original content. Write content that adds value to the visitor. It might take practice, it might take effort and you might not add the kind of value that an “expert” might add. But add value in such a way that at least you are making an effort to do that by at least making it original and not copied work.
Now get out there and move your sites forward, make them better in some way and do it today!

Very nice, dude. Regarding bullet five, getting anchored backlinks seems to be my achilles heal (that and patience). Everything I’ve ever read preaches anchored links from relevant content within the content – this makes perfect sense, but I can’t think of too many tactful ways to get people to link to me. Do you have any suggestions as a good place to start? For instance, I found your blog through Griz’s – how did you get his attention?
Thanks Roadwarrior,
Dave Lopan
I see exactly what you are trying to do here. I also can learn a bit from the other commenters. Most of us (not throwing stonbes here, I’m the president of the procrastinator’s club ) just don’t do the one thing RW mentioned.
Do Something for you Blog, each and every day. If you are reading these words over your morning coffee, as I am, click away on a new browser tab, go to your blog and Do Something before you read another blog, check your AdSesne stats, balance your checkbook or check the sports scores. Trust me, it’s the million dollar secret that doesn’t cost a dime.
@Dave
As far as Griz goes, he just linked to me. I did link to him and think that he just saw it in his stats. At that point in time, he was asking for people to write something link worthy. I was kind of surprised to see my stats and figured out he linked to me because of all of the traffic. It’s my opinion and I think that Potato Chef would agree, that backlinking is where most people don’t dig down deep and do. Which is great because it makes it that much easier for us when we get to that point. I am just now starting my backlinking work for the most part. I would work Griz’s niche support thread and if you are not a member of the Keyword academy. Go join now. Then you can take advantage of their article directories. Also, use the article directories like ezine. When it comes to in post links do what you have done here and make friends with the people in your niche. When all else fails, create your own support network. It might take more work but you’ll get what you want.
Great advice, fellas. Thank you kindly!
