Well, I’ve been busy doing a little research about how to make money with adsense. So, I’ve decided to do a little experiment. If you have been reading my site, you know that I am member of the Keyword Academy. Court and Mark teach you how to find keywords that are easy to target and exactly how to do it. I think everyone knows based on what Griz has said that the number one thing with regard to how to make money with google adsense is about attracting search visitors. Search traffic is the key to getting clicks and social traffic from the places like Stumble and Twitter do not. In order to get ranked higher in the search engines you need enough backlinks to your site for your keyword. How many links do you need? Well, every keyword is different. That is where Mark and Court come in.
They teach you how to find keywords that you CAN rank number one for and tell you how to calculate the potential value of being ranked number one for it. I’m not going to go into that here other than to say for the price of $1.00 you can go watch the core videos of the program that tell you exactly how to do it.

OK. So, I’ve identified a bunch of keywords to target and I have been doing that but thus far I haven’t done a lot of the backlinking necessary to actually rank number one in google for the term I’ve targeted. I have shown up number one for some long tails but not the main keyword. I’ve been posting these keywords to my financial site and wondered — what would happen if I did get one of them to number one? What if I spent all my time trying to rank for one specific keyword and got it to number one? Well, we are going to find out.
The keyword I’ve targeted has a potential of $647.60 per month. It attracts about 8100 searches a month according to the Google adwords too. Currently, I have made a post on financial site for the term and right now I do not rank in the top 100. (Update: I checked to see if my site showed up in the results at all and I showed up at #364 when I started. This was for my home page and not my actual post.) I checked my webmaster tools and at one point when the post was new it did rank 10th. According to the rules, the keyword still works as far as what Mark and Court teach. I have not done any back linking to the page except for a few search terms that I got back links for in the the TKA article directories.
My mission now is to focus on this one post until I get it to number one. I am still going to post to my financial site once a day, but am only going to post on it with posts that support my overall keyword. I think that if you want to learn how to make more money with adsense, you’ve got to take the time to get some terms ranked number one. I am told that once you get one to number one and then get another one ranked number one, that each subsequent word that you target gets easier.
I’ve taken a snap shot of the post today. It was published on the August 10, 2009. I will keep you updated each time I post.

Interesting. I was trying to do some planning, strategic planing that is today and I have come to somewhat the same idea. I was wondering if you were in the Keyword Academy or some other program … I would think that is one of the first strategic things to do for a new comer instead of chasing one keyword after another and using one guru’s method after another.
One problem when you have a number of sites across a broad area of interest is putting out fires, and/or chasing shiny objects. Example, I had a plan to really push some keywords on my Retired Pay site a bout two months back, but then a site that I have about living and retiring in the Philippines kind of went ablaze … when something picks up it’s income and traffic by a factor of 10 or more, it’s hard to focus on what the original plan was. Bot that I am complaining, of course … but I really think the focus on one or a very few closely related words at a time is the way yo go in the long run, for the long run.
Well, I noticed that Griz posts and then you don’t see him for a while and part of it is, I think he is building links to his site. So I’m going to do the same on my finance site and see where it gets me. The only change that I am going to make is building up the related keywords on the site while I get the back links. What I do when I see that a site is doing well is instead of spending more time on it, try and create something new instead of focusing on what is working…lol. I say that because one of my sites, which isn’t really keyword focused does fairly well, but I never go work on it…..shame on me!
Awesome man. I’m working on a very similar experiment right now…only about half as ambitious of a keyword (4400 local search volume). $650 is a nice chunk o’ change…hope it works out for you. Keep bangin!
Keep us updated on your progress. It’s always great to see other people working on stuff and and hearing how it turns out.
