OK. I’m gonna kick off WorkingOnTheGo.com with a business you can start from anywhere and I’m going to call it my Adsense Startup. Over the past two years, I’ve been reading and studying Google AdSense and think that I understand the basics of how to do it. If you want to work on the go, from anywhere and make money while you sleep, this is a good place to start. However, I will tell you that it won’t come easy, it’s going to take some work. At the end of this post, I’m going to go through my 2 year plan to building my little adsense website empire.
A little background first. I have a day job as an insurance agent doing group life insurance so this isn’t my primary line of work. I’m going to be working on this in my spare time and going to see where it takes me. I’ve been playing around with adsense seriously for about a year. Most of it, reading about other’s experiences. As I start this site, I have 25 different sites of which about 12 are adsense related and around 4 I’ve been focusing on. Right now, my sites have been making around $25-$30 dollars a month for the last three or four months. I have received one adsense check and am on the verge of my second one anyday now.
But even though I’ve made a little from it, I still spend a lot of my time surfing through an adsense forum here, an adsense website there and any site that talks about it, I’ve been reading it. The doesn’t count the adsense login every five minutes just to see if anyone clicked an ad.
Hang on a sec…I’ll be right back…
Tick, tock….
OK…no money, I guess the next check will have to wait…lol.
Anyway, at some point you have to decide whether you are in it to make money, or in it to read about how much money everyone else is making. And if you want to make money with adsense, you are going to figure out what I know now. At a certain point, you have soaked up all of the knowledge you need any order to succeed. After that, it’s all about action.
The guru’s who teach this material and I’ll get to them in a second, all started with nothing. So, you cannot let not having anything going yet prevent you providing the only thing you are going to really need here with this project and that’s effort. Without effort, you won’t make any dough. You’ll make a little here and a little there and conclude it ain’t gonna work. With this site, we are going to prove that it can.
I’ll tell you what the main problem with making money online is and that is there are so many different ways that you can do it. There’s adsense, affiliate marketing, ebay, google adwords. I mean you name it and there’s someone selling you an ebook telling you how to do it. I know I was there. The first thing I saw about making money online was how to use a Yahoo! store. I bought several ebooks about it. I never made a Yahoo! store. I think the store that was the model storefront was one that sold armor for re-enactments or something like that. It was some obscure niche. But, they were making money at it….or so they said.
After that, I found myself on all of these email lists offering even new and better ways to bring in some online cash. And, you guessed it, more ebooks. I would surmise that I spent about $500 on ebooks, easy. I applied a few things here or there doing the one thing they all encouraged you to do-become an affiliate selling the same ebook you bought. Most of these ebooks I bought through clickbank which is an awesome service to make money. How do I know, I spent a bunch.
My favorite type of list offering was the one that only sold so many of their courses. And then they would shut it down. They had all of these bonuses if you bought it through them. It was then it dawned on me that it wasn’t likely that I would ever get to anyone before they did. I then unsubscribed to most of those lists.
Some where along the line, I ran across a guy named Griz. He had a site that talked about How To Make Money Online For Beginners. He was offering it all for free. And, from the looks of his site, he was actually practicing what he taught. Unlike the other guys, I’d read.
His site is ugly. Yet, it is packed with great infomation. I’ve read it all and applied it extensively more than any other technique I’ve come across. In a nutshell, (you can go read it on your own and learn) here is what he teaches. The first step is to pick a topic, or niche, that you want to talk about on your blog. Then, you spend all of your time talking about it, that one single topic, or those closely related to them. These topics are called adsense keywords. These keywords form the basis of your blog title, your post titles and the content of your articles. Once these articles are in place, you can then put Google Adsense ad units on your pages and when visitors click those ads, you make money. How much depends on how much the advertisers are bidding on them. That makes keyword selection important. But the purpose of this site is not to teach you the mechanics of how it works, you can read it from Griz, he explains it better than I can here.
After you read his site, then the next stop you should make is to the Keyword Academy. Court and Mark at the keyword academy have taken what Griz teaches and layed it out in such a superb fashion that thanks to them reinforcing what I learned from Griz to the point that now I really get it. I understand exactly what I need to do which leads me to the point of this post.
I guess the basis for what I am about to lay out to start generating a significant adsense revenue on a monthly basis for me is from two different sources. One is from Court and Mark. They are always doing these experiments and the don’t do them on a small scale. They’ve done projects such as 100 hubs in 30 days and 100 blog posts in 30 days. What happens when you do such large projects with massive effort? You get great results. And they certainly have. It’s inspiring. Really.
Not to be out done, I came across my third influence and that’s a guy named Ben at How To Make Money Online With Seo. He started creating a following for taking the massive effort thing to a new level. If Court and Mark could do 100 hubs, Ben was going to do 400. If they were going to do 100 blog posts, Ben was going to do a 1000. And, it sounds like it’s really working well for him. The great thing is, that these types of experiments really create a sense of excitement and everyone, including me, wants to know how they turn out.
The only problem is that as much as I’d like to match his level of effort (and Court and Mark’s effort) as well, I still tend to get only a few things done a day because I have so much to do. So, I spend more of my time looking for all of the adsense tips they provide than actually writing a gazillion posts. Even when you get that done, you’ve got to get back links which involves even more writing. It’s amazing to think that any single person could write the volume required to do it on a grandscale. If I don’t do it on a grandscale, how do I know adsense is working?
To complicate things, I’m also noticing a significant number of people skeptical of Google taking away what you build. There worried about the sandbox, getting de-indexed and getting banned from adsense. So, people are then talking about adsense alternatives when that happens. It’s really kind of comical the depth of thought that has gone into every angle. As for me though, I’m looking for one thing, performing my google adsense login and seeing a bunch of adsense earnings. Because I don’t think that there will be a better adsense alternative to choose from, I’m going to dive into my plan.
I’m lucky though because I already have an adsense account. If you don’t have one, you’ll have to go through a period where you have to earn the right to have one. How do you do that? Write a bunch of good content and then apply.
Well, I think I have laid the foundation to my overall plan which I am going to document on this website as I go along. I think if I have learned anything so far, rule number one is that you must write original content. And, alot of it. But how do you do that if you are crunched for time like I am. How can you compete against the massive effort that other people competing against you are going to be giving. What about those that are cheating? Because they are there.
How To Make Money With Adsense Without Killing Yourself
Here’s how. Original, compelling content. If there’s is one thing I have in my arsenal, it’s that I have the skill to write. Original content is a must. I’m telling you, people are lazy, they’ll have anything from computers write their content to people who hardly speak English just to save a buck here or there.
Step one is a commitment to write all of my own content. Eventually, Google will find a way to eliminate all of those adsense websites that are crap content. By making all of my content on my own, I’m going to see my google adsense revenue be more stable and good for the long term mainly because of that one single piece of effort. This is key.
My content is also going to have be long and thorough. It’s going to have to cover my topics completely and more extensively than anyone else in the niches that I choose and the sites are going to have to be big and target lots and lots of keywords and I’m going to diversify my adsense keywords as well. To get a hefty adsense income, I’m going to have to think big, bigger than I ever have before. I’ve got to be realistic at the same time. Somewhere between Griz, Court, Mark and Ben. Without further ado, here is the plan.
- I’m going to choose seven overall niches.
- After that, I’m going to pick one niche and make it my sole focus.
- Each day, I’m going to post a keyword targeted post to that blog until I’ve reached a 100 articles on the site.
- Each day, I’m going to get four backlinks to the site.
- Once I reach 100 posts, I’m going to then write on that blog once a week and put it into maintenance mode.
- Then, I’ll choose the second niche, write 100 posts on that blog and
- Get 4 backlinks to that site.
- Once I’ve reached 100, I’ll then put that site on maintenance mode by writing on it once a week.
- At that point, I’ll have two blogs in maintenance mode and start the third.
- This means that I can create about three and half sites a year, fully backlinked with seven supersites completed by the end of the second year.
- At that point, I’ll have a post to write a week on each blog to keep it in action with new keywords.
At that point, I’ll re-evaluate where I am. I believe that I’ll be making money with adsense pretty well after two years. If not, adsense help me…lol….!
That being said, I’ll also have to squeeze in keyword research, site maintenance, commenting, blogroll link exchanges, research, reciprocal links and more. Which leads me to the goal of this site which is how the heck do you organize it all and get it all done. By breaking it all down into little steps, recording those steps so you know exactly what you are did and so you can repeat it.
In a sense, charting out your progress as you go along and creating a road map to repeat the next time. So, join me as I start this journey either by wishing me luck or joining me on your own adsense start up. It will be kind of like our adsense reality show as we go along.
Good luck!
Michael

Great post. We are both in a similar place in our Adsense journey. I’ve recently joined TKA and am really excited about getting refocused. Look forward to more updates on your progress.
Good luck on your adventure. I will be watching to see how you do and how your techniques might apply to some of my own sites.

Thanks for the encouragement and keep me posted on how you are doing.
Interesting, informative post! I find myself in much the same place as you and I am fascinated by your plan. Actually, I’m fascinated by your having a plan as so many don’t.
Good luck! I’ll look forward to following your progress.
You have a sound strategy — and you can certainly make money doing that if you keep it up over a year.
Adsense is a bit of a code to crack, but after you figure it out, it really can work for you. The key is to target the right niches (always the hardpart) and getting the traffic — either through solid SEO or pure volume. And of course, you need some persistance — most people fail with adsense because they give up before they see the results they have been working for.
Best of luck on your journey — you’ll be making good money in you keep banging on that adsense door.
Ben
@Ben
Thanks for swinging by Ben. I’ve been reading your site for a while now and am impressed with your approach. I’m always looking forward to your updates. I had to laugh when I read one of your posts when you talked about one of your friends who gave up on it and you’ve stuck with it. Kind of reminds me of one of my friends who has told me that once I prove it can be done, then he’ll do it..lol.
Woah buddy. You should reconsider the 4 backlinks a day thing. You will start off way too fast, and it will look unnatural. I have only been working with adsense for about 2 months and I am up to about $50 a month. I am no pro, but I do not think that 4 links a day every day would look very good to google.
@Dino
Duly noted. We are about to find out!
good luck on your endeavors! i look fwd to future earnings updates.
Sounds interesting, I guess the big question is whether you will share the links of each 7 sites? To be honest that will be the stand out difference between this experiment and the many others.
I have read many tales of 100 posts here and 100 there, but despite repeated requests the links to these sites are often not available to us. I sometimes wonder if they really did create those posts or is it the whole “experiment” just link bait! In some cases we’ll never know
Best of luck with your site building
@blogercise
Yes I agree with you 100% in that I have often wondered the same thing. It’s easy to say you’ve done all of those things and quite another to offer the proof. However, even when proof is in front of us, it’s still hard to believe it’s really true. I think the closest thing I have seen to full proof (both the site and the earnings) is Grizzly’s site and one of the reasons that it really got me interested was that he actually does rank number one or on page one for the terms he says and we can see the actual site as well. So, then it becomes a question of do you believe the screenshots of the adsense earnings.
For some reason, there’s this keep my niche secret fear that you are going to get your site sabotaged in some way or you adsense account banned for something completely out of your control. I do not know if these are grounded in truth. But rather than take the chance I like the others will probably not broadcast the sites I am working on. The real proof of adsense earnings to me is actually seeing them for yourself in your own account. I have seen some trickle in and know that people do indeed click the ads. Then it’s a question of volume.
Having said that, this experiment is about adsense, and making good money at it, but because so many people have done these experiments, this site will cover it in a slightly different way, those are:
1. How to break down the overall goal into manageable steps, and
2. How to organize your workflow so that it takes as little time as possible.
This site is about one other thing, and that’s providing proof to myself, because I am a MAJOR skeptic.
Hey Michael,
You are doing much better than I did my first couple of years trying to make money online with Adsense.
Luckily since I found Grizz and followed his Adsense steps my earning jumped majorly.
I’ll be following along to see how things are going for you.
I too work full time and am going twelve hrs. a day so I definitely understand your time constraints.
Hopefully through this procedure you will find a niche that gets good traffic and makes money and rather than eventually letting it sit idle, you keep adding content and ways of monetizing it.
Good luck with it all!
Greetings, Mr. Warrior! Your plan sounds good, and you’ve definitely got the “gift for the gab” thing down pat. I mean that as a compliment, of course, as it will serve you well in this endeavor. Now you just need to work on making it little more ugly!
I struggle with that, myself.
Good luck to you… mostly in the niche-picking department since this is WAY-more about massive effort than luck… and happy writing!
I have been reading instead of doing for about two years. I work full time and have 2 young children, so do not have much free time. I think your 2 year plan is good, I look forward to reading your progress.
@Barbara
Thanks for the comment. It’s amazing what a little amount done consistently can build up to.
Hi mate, what you say makes adsense, I still have a long way to go, but I’m going to read up on this stuff you’ve provided.
With all the effort you’ve put in, why not get a few people to contribute content, forget being so soldier like in the posting a certain amount of messages each day, journalistic type information on the topic, or financial journalists, people with experience in the field you’re in. even up and coming industry members that are hungry for some exposure, it gives them credibility, they can add their links and reviews in their posts and everyone is getting something out of it.
my blog is only new, and it’s a niche market, but it already has a ranking of 2,, which isn’t bad, for something to do on the side, now i need to bring the adsense money in though. lol
@good stuff
What you say makes sense. It’s just finding those people. I know that when I first started getting interested in writing there was a book called the writer’s market that gave freelancers a chance to get their work published. I think blogging has pretty much killed that because people can write without having being ‘approved’. I am good example. I did last night though write a guest article on another blog and am happy to offer the same.
hey there,
I really like your approach. I am also a follower of Griz, after having spent quite an amount for E-Books I have had enough. After reading your post here, I got really inspired and I will try to do the same. Let’s see how it is going to work. As I am German, I have a blog in German, I guess the same basics apply everywhere, so hopefully a year from now, you and I are making money alike.
Thanks for the nice comment. I appreciate it. Hey you could be the German Griz! Whatever you work on, consistent small steps will still get you there.
Michael: I absolutely love this plan! I’m thinking of taking it and using it myself, it seems like the perfect mix of steady progress and smart theory. I have built a hundred post site backlinked exactly as you describe in a month, and it was a LOT of work, I wouldn’t be able to do that over an extended period of time. In fact, I got a little burned out and haven’t been too productive this month as a result.
I think that a long term view like this is not only going to keep you consistently cranking out content, but it’s also going to make you look good in the eyes of the great G. I have been wondering whether my superduper site is going to get penalised for it’s big flurry of activity followed by nothing. I think I will take your idea of continual posting once a week to keep it alive.
Thanks again for a great post and some excellent insights. I’ll be watching your progress eagerly .
@Josh
I’ve watched your efforts over at TKA. Thanks for the comments and keep me posted on how it’s going.
My friend, you just sang my song – far more beautifully than I ever could. Lovely harmonies! It seems like everyday, I’ll get this huge, grandiose idea that I’m going to invent, build, or more relevantly, blog on. I’ll spend a day creating a compelling intro to the idea, and then I’ll start researching…overwhelming research, and like you mentioned, getting wrapped up trying to create back links. My creator’s high quickly turns into defeated discouragement, I convince myself that it won’t work, and I hatch the next “great idea” to make myself feel better. Repeat cycle.
I just started a new blog, tracking my personal progress of making money online, and the first person to comment on my blog was someone who referred me to Griz’s site. Well, you must be doing something right because I found you on his blog. Anyway, I just want to say I’m very relieved to find someone else who has shared my pain. You have some great ideas – a few that I’ll have to try out myself. I look forward to hearing more on your progress.
Thanks,
Dave
Michael,
I like your plan. It is solid and easily fits around a full time job. Now the secret here is to do it! LOL
The biggest problem that I have had is I can think up way more things to do than I have time to do. I created to many sites in too many niches and they are all neglected.
I am not a gifted writer so that makes it even more difficult for me. But………….
I am glad I visited your site (got the link from Griz) and I am going to follow your plan and I will get back with you on the results.
To everyone’s success,
Dirk
@Dirk
I’ve often thought I should write a post “How to get less done in more time” Keep us updated on your progress. Remember that a little bit each day will go along way.
Excellent post.
Your goals are extremely specific and extremely ambitious. I very much hope you can stick with this project. I’m confident that if you can you will be raking in a lot of AdSense money. Love your strategy about it not being an overnight process.
I’m guessing the most difficult thing will be maintaining the blogs you’re least interested in. I hope for your sake that between the Financial, travel, sleep, law, insurance, work, and home sites you’ve picked subcategories that you’re not going to get tired of.
I really wish you the best of luck. Good luck with your sustained motivation.
I have also read Grizzly’s lessons on money making and found them very enlightening .Am also planning to start I already have an Adsense Account.My major concern is can one use only one adsense account for all the different Blogs created.i.e if you creat say 5 Blogs do you have to use only one adsense account?It appears Google does not allow opening of more than one adsense account.Please Help me internalise this Point before I can start.
You should start with one adsense account. You’ll be fine. Google permits one account per person or “entity” like a corporation or LLC. That will give you options later if you feel you need them. If you are just starting out, one account is sufficient. Google isn’t out to get everyone like it might seem.
You are right that it is easier to write about topics you are interested in. I’ve found that lately, the blogs that excite me the most are the ones getting clicks!
